Perovskite solar companies screen?

This data-file is a screen of 20 perovskite solar companies, which are producing perovskite or perovskite-tandem modules at MW-GW scale, testing perovskite cells at lab scale with a view to future manufacturing, or early- or venture-stage companies that are developing new perovskite solar technologies.

Perovskites are a class of materials with the structure ABX3, exceptionally high absorption of light, conversion into conduction band electrons and holes, and generating energy via the photovoltaic effect. Even in very thin layers. And manufacturable at below 100ยฐC with 90% less energy than PV silicon.

New records are continually being set for the efficiency of perovskites, or perovskite-silicon tandem cells, per the chart below. Hence this data-file is a screen of perovskite solar companies, from companies already producing modules at MW-GW scale for commercial projects, through to earlier-stage companies.

Of the nine companies manufacturing-stage companies, seven are based in China, while two are European, including the famous OxfordPV. The best companies in this screen now have tandem perovskite-silicon modules on the market with module-level efficiencies of 25-27%.

Large solar module manufacturers, such as Longi and Jinko, have published impressive results at the cell level. For example, in June-2024, LONGi announced it had set a record of 34.6% conversion efficiency, in a silicon-perovskite tandem solar cell. The results were recognized by the US NREL and by Germanyโ€™s Fraunhofer Institute.

At earlier stages of technical development, US, European, Japanese and Korean companies have ambitions of surpassing 30% efficiency on tandem perovskite-silicon solar, some targeting as high as 40%, and seeking to disrupt the solar supply chain with perovskite-only tandem cells in the future.

The details of these perovskite solar companies are captured in the file, including when they were founded, where they are headquartered, employee counts, patent counts, descriptions of their activities and brief comments on their patent libraries.
