SolarEdge is a ‘photovoltaics company’ which specializes in the power-electronics needed to use solar energy in practical power systems. The company was founded in 2006. Its headquarters are in Israel. It is listed on NASDAQ. 2020 revenues were $1.5bn and c30-35% gross margins.
Our patent review finds a good, but very broad array of incremental improvements. They suggest a transition is underway to becoming a broad power-electronics company for solar-battery heavy grids, amidst the build-out of renewables.
Another major theme was performing increasing levels of optimization and power-filtering using advanced electronics, to improve the longevity of solar and battery systems. Often this involves inverter/electronics technology replacing conventional/physical power-management equipment.
The patent library scored relatively well on our framework. Some specific observations are highlighted in the data-file.
